    cv. Wisconsin 240 were grown in pots in quartz sand to which a nutrient solution containing N, S, P, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Cl and trace elements was added. The 4 treatments tested resulted from the combination of 2 concentrations in the nutrient solution (14.5 or 145 meq/l) and 2 r.h. levels (50% or 94%). The concentration of nutrients in the roots and in the above-ground parts was not directly related to water flow or the ionic concentration of the nutrient solution. However, the concentration of certain ions tended to be higher at high concentrations in the nutrient solution, but this effect varied among elements.
