Abstract : The reaction of animals to their environment is illustrated using the results of 3 studies of pig behaviour. It was observed that pigs with a total space availability of 0.51 m2/animal were more likely to display disturbed behaviour during the growth period and lower performance at finishing. In farrowing houses, it was demonstrated that a feeder close to the heat source encouraged suckling and conditioned growth performance after weaning. Piglet behaviour under 2 temp. regimes was also investigated. It is emphasized that building designdesignSubject Category: Techniques, Methodologies and Equipment
