. A secondary focus determines the moderating affects of gender, age and depression in the social physique anxiety-exercise behaviour relationship. The results show a negative relationship in which social physique anxiety may indeed influence exercise behaviour, whereby individuals with higher levels of social physique anxiety may be less likely to engage in physical exercises in situations where their bodies may be evaluated negatively. An individual who thinks that others view his/her body favourably or is disinterested in how others view their body may not be concerned with exercising where physique evaluation may take place. The form of the SPA-exercise behaviour relationship is also moderated by gender and age. Specifically, it appears that exercise behaviour is lowest in oldest females with higher levels of SPA.
