The growing concern about the environment and the rational use of water has increased the deployment of rainwater catchment systems for non-drinking purposes. This study aimed to check the interference of the adoption of different catchment areas and sizes of reservoirs in the care of the demands for non-potable water uses in the town of Irati, Parana, Brazil. The system under study uses rooftops as the catchment areas of rainwater, which is led until its subsequent storage in reservoirs. The size of the reservoirs was calculated by the Australian Practical Method for a reliability of 90%. The residential demand was 275 litres day-1 and attendance ranged from 12.9 to 68.5%, considering the combinations of 50 m2 of the catchment area with reservoir volume of 0.5 m3 and 200 m2 of area and 3 m3 reservoir. These rainwater catchment systems should be used as an alternative and not a substitute for conventional water supply systems, and that they have great relevance in the management of municipal water resources.
